The wide range of benefits that comes from studying abroad cannot be over emphasized. Being introduced to different culture, learning new languages, meeting people from different parts of the world – the gains goes on.

Out of the top study abroad destinations for students, including UK and US, Canada stands out on a white promise of great experiences. As you consider options for your study abroad program, it’s worthwhile to have a view of what hopes Canada holds for you, and of course, that’s also in looking at the fun side.

With over 250,000 international students, Canada continues to grow annually, and this is largely due to some of the factors below:

Cost of Tuition and Living is Cheaper, Compared to Other Commonwealth Countries

The quality of education in Canada is equivalent to those of the US and the UK, but at a near half cost. This means if you find the cost of studying in the US, UK, etc. overwhelming, Canada is a viable option.

The standard of education in Canada is among the best in the world, while tuition and living is comparably cheaper than in many countries.

Studying in Canada is Safe with Security for All

The Global Peace Index ranks Canada as one of the top 10 safest countries to visit in the world, making it a conducive place for international students to study.

Canadians are very accommodating, and rich in multiculturalism. The country has ethnic groups from all over the world represented – you can practice your traditions without intimidation from anyone.

Individual values are respected and you do not have to subscribe to the ethos of others to get assimilated.

Work While You Study

If you ever come short of money, you can work during and after academic sessions to earn and level up. This could help you to make ends meet, and also pay up any student loans you might have.

It is however beneficial to note that you must have a valid study permit, be a full-time student, and be part of an academic, vocational, or professional training program to take advantage of 20-hour weekly in-session work or full-time job during scheduled breaks.

Become a Permanent Canadian Resident

Do you know that you can become a permanent Canadian resident by enrolling in the Canadian education system? In fact, one of the reasons international students come to Canada is to become a Canadian citizen. This is possible through the Canadian Experience Class.

You must have worked with a valid work permit and obtained a graduate degree to be eligible for permanent residency which takes 15 to 18 months to process.

Learn Two Major Languages While Exploring Canada

English and French, two major languages in the world, are the official languages of Canada. International students are easily exposed to learning and perfecting these languages while studying in Canada.

Both English and French are used for teaching in Canada and they are integral to the country’s education system, helping your mastery of both or either languages while studying in Canada.

Talk about tourist attractions; be sure to visit beautiful places like lush coastline of British Columbia; the majestic Rocky Mountains of Alberta; the wide expanse of the prairies, and all the maple sugar country of the Great Lakes.

It is true that everyone likes success and promotion, but not everyone likes reading far into the nights or even seating for an exam – because of the untold anxiety, sleepless nights, and poor health accompanying the approaching exams. But it doesn’t have to be this way if you’d master the hacks to passing tests and exams without much effort.

7 Amazing Hacks to Passing Exams

Mentally Associate What You Read With What You Know

One of the best ways to master a topic or recall it absolutely is by associating it with a relevant experience while studying it. For example, associating red with blood makes you to remember blood anytime you see red; and associating birds with airplanes makes you to remember airplanes anytime you see birds gliding.

When you relate what you learn to what you know, it helps you to recall things when you come across the trigger.

Study with a Class Friend

Partnering to study with a class friend helps both of you to tackle difficult issues you both come across while studying together. The best way to go about this is to study individually, at the same time and place, but to ask each other questions that one does not understand. This will enable both of you to study for longer hours without dosing off, thereby strengthening how you learn.

Cram By Reading Stuff Upside Down

What this simply means is that if you ever have to study and cram things, then its best done by placing the book upside down to you so that you can task your brain to focus more and grab the content. Learning this way is slow, but it is more efficient for teaching the brain to recall things. More so, it forces concentration and reduces mindless staring.

Reward Yourself with a Treat For Studying

We all have the tendency to sleep off while studying alone, but you can overcome this problem by occasionally treating yourself to a candy – popped into your mouth once in a while. Popping candy, popcorn, gum, and cake into your mouth while you study alone helps you to keep awake and find studying interesting.

Sipping coffee and energy drinks helps maintain a good level of cognitive function and energy, which accelerates learning.

Read Out Aloud to Maintain Concentration

Sometimes it helps more to read out aloud in order to maintain concentration, instead of always reading silently to yourself.

Your mind wanders aimlessly if you read silently to yourself, but reading out aloud and hearing your own voice reinforces concentration and brings the material alive to you – empowering you to recall them when you need to.

Don’t Play Your Favorite Songs While Studying

Many people like to listen to soft music while studying, but the truth is that listening to your favorite songs will rather distract you than help you concentrate.

Studies have shown that unfamiliar music boosts productivity, but listening to your favorite music distracts and makes you lose focus. You end up singing along and getting distracted rather than paying attention to what you need to study and recall.

Different things work for different people when it comes to studying and recalling them during tests and exams, but you must know what works for you and stick to it.

Having the right study habit and exam-smashing skills isn’t something that comes easy. To some it’s a natural talent but others have to master the hooks and crooks.

Whatever the case, the tips listed above; these study techniques, and your own efforts should set you off in the right path.

Only a decade ago, test prep seemed to be a service available only to those willing to invest thousands of dollars. Sure, you could shoestring it by buying a book or two at Barnes & Noble but even that could set you back about 50 dollars.

That has all changed–and in a big way. With the College Board partnering with Khan Academy and the proliferation of blogs such as PWN the SAT and Magoosh, free prep is quickly becoming the norm. A sign of this is the ACT is now teaming up with Kaplan, which is long known as the powerhouse in test prep–and for offering services at a hefty sum. So how does all this free prep stack up against 50 bucks worth of prep books? It completely blows it out of the water.

Free SAT practice resources

  1. Khan Academy

The breadth of material and the quality of instruction you get here is excellent (though the math is better than the verbal). That Khan Academy offers all the instructional materials (including free SAT practice tests from College Board) for free is mind blowing. I’d argue–though this isn’t very empirical–that Khan is better than some 3,000 dollar prep courses, especially when the instructor has limited experience or little motivation.

As of now, Khan is only available for the SAT. But it’s thousands of free math lesson videos cover most of the concepts on the ACT math.

  1. PWN the SAT

This blog features great advice from a tutor who really understands the test. I’d say his math content is stronger but the verbal advice is still solid. PWN sells books on Amazon but many of these can be spread out over the blog.

  1. Magoosh High School Blog: SAT Section

Like PWN the SAT, Magoosh has a blog offering tons of free advice, lesson videos, and tips. Magoosh also has a product (disclaimer: I create SAT content for Magoosh) and you can access a certain number of videos for free.

  1. The College Board

The College Board creates the SAT, so it’s good to take advantage of any free resources that come your way. For the old SAT they offered a “question of the day”. This feature, sadly, is now gone. What they do offer are practice SAT tests and a practice PSAT. However, this content overlaps with what you can get through Khan Academy. So for now, the College Board isn’t giving us too much new.

Free ACT practice resources

Unfortunately, ACT practice resources aren’t quite as robust. At the same time, the ACT is trying to rip a page from the College Board’s playbook by offering free content through its partnership with Kaplan. This content, though, will only be free for those who qualify as lower income. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay 200, which at least is better than 2,000. We will just have to wait a bit for this. For now we have the following:

  1. ACT practice test

Like the College Board tests, these ACT practice tests were written by the creators–in this case, the ACT. Unfortunately, as is also the case with the College Board, there are no explanations, only answer choices.

  1. Magoosh High School Blog: ACT Section

Like the SAT section of the blog, you’ll get lots of free information covering all aspects of the test. There will be practice content from time to time, so you can practice ACT questions created by the experts at Magoosh

  1. Magoosh ACT flashcards

These flashcards are great because they take concepts fundamentals essential to the ACT and break them down in flashcard form. That means you can study on the go. They’re available on iTunes and Google Play.

Studying abroad is as much a life goal as it is a mere dream, for most students.

A very common barrier to this goal is the financial commitments wrapped inside and around it.

It’s even tougher when the dream study abroad destination is the United Kingdom. This is partly due to constant increase in college fees and education rates.

With the annual tuition fees soaring at £9,000 annually, UK Universities relatively ranks among the most expensive tertiary institution, compared to countries like Canada.

Students who dream to study in the UK – with hopes of exploring Great Britain – are easily put off by the general prospects that “UK universities are expensive”. But, just like different models of an iPhone, every UK university doesn’t cost the same.

Here are cheapest universities in the UK, offering equal standard of learning but on lesser fee structures.

  • Edinburgh Heriot-Watt: This is a public university based in Edinburgh, with branch campuses in the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Dubai, and Putrajaya.

Being one of the oldest and cheapest universities in the UK, the Edinburgh Heriot-Watt University is known for its good placement opportunities.

About 80% of its graduates get great offers after leaving the institution. Students at this school pay £9,587 each year.

  • Straffordshire University: Straffordshire University usually offers two–year fast track undergraduate programs as well as specializations in secondary teacher training courses.

Straffordshire’s tuition is about £7,610 for classroom based degrees. However, specialized course takers pay more. Housing could cost around £45 to £108 weekly.

Hey soccer fans, did you know that Aston Villa FC. uses facilities at Staffordshire University?

Students pay about £10,000 annually, depending on the course of study. Kent has faculties through Humanities, Sciences and Social sciences with each college having residential rooms, lecture theaters, study rooms and computer rooms.

This research-led university has 24 schools and 40 specialist research centers that span the sciences, technology and medical studies.

In 2005, The Guardian newspaper placed Kent’s ranking at 16th in the UK .

If a Franco-British program is what you are interested in, Kent has a double-degree program that combines in one degree.

  • Teesside University If you are interested in specialising in Forensics, Health or Engineering, on a low budget, then Teesside is where you should be.

With emphasis on real life learning, Teesside charges around £5,050 for qualifications below degree level.

  • Leeds Trinity University: Foundation degrees at Leeds Trinity are around £2,250 a year, while full time programs cost around £8,000.  Leeds Trinity has diverse cultural exposure and provides opportunities for part-time jobs in sport teams around the region.

  • University of Cumbria: To the North of England and South of Scotland, this University has an average annual cost of £6,960.

Halls of residence at Cumbria cost between £4,000 per year. The faculties of concentration in this school includes Arts, Business and Science; Education; and Teaching.

The London Metropolitan University costs about £6,900 annually with accommodation averaging £95 per week, depending on the type. The university has facilities to accommodate sports lovers and journalism enthusiasts.

  • University of St. Andrews: Based in Scotland, the University of St. Andrews is home to many international students and well-renowned for a good quality of students accommodation.

St. Andrews costs around £9,000 annually and every fresher is guaranteed a place in the halls of residence.

The university has teaching faculties, libraries, student housing and other buildings spread throughout the town.

  • Abertay University: With average fees around £4,000, Abertay is one of the cheapest universities in the UK. This school offers graduate courses in energy, counselling, ethical hacking and computer security. Abertay University also has academic schools across Science, Engineering and Technology, Social and Health Sciences

The University has unique offerings such as degrees in Film and TV. In addition to its well-touted educational curricula, accommodation is on the low end, at a £2,900 annually cost.

Bolton is near Liverpool and Manchester.

  • Cardiff Metropolitan University: With averages around £4,050  for postgraduate and £9,000 for graduates, the CMU offers different opportunities for individuals who have their first degrees and want to further their knowledge. CMU provides private accommodations to students who need them and have great resources for sports fanatics.

In addition to a well-equipped library, students at BGU can also use the Sport and Fitness Centre as well as play sports such as hockey, basketball, tennis, badminton and netball.

Reviews on University Which show that BGU’s students are highly satisfied with the learning conditions of the university.

Graduates from this school, on a average, earn £20,000 and 98% are in work or further study.

Great things don’t come cheap, but certainly, most programs offered in these schools are of great standard and quality.

While picking a school, look beyond rankings and make sure to check for scholarship opportunities.

Education in Canada

Over the years, education in Canada has become vastly appealing to international students from all over the world. The education system has been modified flexibly to allow students achieve great academic feats, not to mention the availability of a wide range of programs, making Canada a hot cake.

In Canada, like other developed countries, tertiary education includes every type of formal teaching program. Programs such as academic, vocational, technical and the professional education – offered primarily by universities, colleges, and special institutes. The dynamic nature of the system helps students develop necessary skills to survive in the global job market.

Overall, Canada’s transparent and diverse education system welcomes potential students from all over the world.

This 39 pages E-book covers everything, from basic issues such as living and accommodation expenses to body language, greeting and lifestyle; and overall guide on admission process, tuition, visa processing, scholarship and employment opportunities.

Canadian Universities and Programs

There are about 98 universities students can choose from, throughout Canada’s 13 provinces and territories.

The list of Canadian Universities contains an overview of options available to students.

The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) also maintains a Directory of educational institutions in Canada. The directory contains a list of registered, recognised and licensed educational institutions in Canada.

The most amazing thing about studying in Canada is the wide range of courses to choose from. It’s important to match your interests with schools and programs in Canada. Also, ensure to choose schools that deliver exciting multicultural experiences taught by some of the world’s leading instructors.

Program Duration

An undergraduate degree in a Canadian university may take three or four years to complete, depending on the program. On the other hand, postgraduate degrees hardly extends past three years. Education systems differ with provinces. Quebec in particular stands out, with regards to times and length of study. Students are advised to choose institutions for specific details.

Admission Requirements

To get admitted into any Canadian tertiary education institution, students are expected to meet certain requirements. The admission process and requirements vary by institution, the field of studies, programs and other relevant factors.

Below are the most general procedures and requirements to get admission into most Canadian universities at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Undergraduate Requirements

  • A completed application form
  • An high school transcript (or attested copy) (if applicable);
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (if any);
  • A precise resume to show educational and work experience, community involvement, volunteer experience, etc.
  • A Letter of Intent (LOI) outlining the student’s academic intentions/
  • Proof of English language proficiency. (international students only)

Postgraduate Requirements

  • A completed application form
  • An official undergraduate university transcript
  • GMAT score (preferred) or GRE score
  • TOEFL or IELTS score (international students only)
  • Two letters of reference
  • Personal Statement
  • A precise resume to show educational and work experience, community involvement, volunteer experience, etc.

Language Requirements

English and French are the major languages in Canada. Nonetheless, most of the universities offer courses in English language. Students whose native language isn’t English are required to undergo test to ascertain their proficiency.

Besides language skills, high school grades are also highly considered when applying to a college or university. Most tertiary institutions require 70+% average grade, to consider further documentation.  Some schools may however require up to 85%.

The two essential criteria are thus; high school grades/performance and language skills – English (in most of the provinces) or French in francophone ones.

Online Application Guide

PS: Before starting your application, confirm that you meet the requirements.

  • Choose your first and second choice programs.
  • Check the admission requirement for your program choices.
  • Start your online application.
  • Complete your online application.
  • Apply for Scholarships (optional).
  • Apply for Residence.
  • Submit required documents and review the status of your application.

Admission Dates

Although, a university is responsible for setting its own deadlines, the various dates are within close range.

Universities in Canada close application from international students around 1st of March while March 31st is the deadline for international students to submit necessary documents.

Entry and Visa Regulations

  • A study permit (student visa) is required, after acceptance into a programme of study.
  • Entry to Canada is dependent on sufficient funds to pay living expenses during one’s entire stay, tuition fees and a return ticket home.
  • Character and health checks are also carried out.
  • A police check or a medical examination (or both) are done some times.
  • A study permit is issued on arrival against a written notification of acceptance on a course.

Note: Each of Canada’s provinces and territories runs its own education system. Thus, it is important to complete the study permit application in compliance to the rules that apply to the province of territory of interest.

Getting Visa/Study Permit

Students have to obtain a Canadian study permit/ Canadian student visa in order to study in Canada. But if your program would last six months or less, you do not need a Canadian study permit. It is advised that you apply for such permit before going to Canada.

Scholarships and Financial Aids

Students are required to provide proof of adequate funds to cater for their tuition and basic needs, before being considered for admission. Alternatively, funding can come from other sources like scholarships, project grants, loans, student bursaries or even financial aid.

Several other alternatives are also available for students to finance their education, regardless of nationality.

In addition to scholarships and bursaries, Canada offers student loans, bank loan or line of credit.

Scholarships are also available for international students at undergraduate level. Specific scholarships are also awarded for sporting and academic achievements.

PS: Public and private organisations in your country might provide financial assistance to students looking to study abroad. Don’t fail to check them out.

The Cost of Studying in Canada

Studying in Canada or anywhere abroad requires a reliable source of finance, proper planning, commitment and discipline. The cost of studying in Canada can be easily divided into three parts; Cost of Application, Tuition Fees and Living Cost (housing, insurance, travel costs, visa fees and other costs).

Application Fees in Canada

  • Application fees is $50 to $150, depending on the University.
  • Entrance exam costs around $ 200 a piece, although this usually depends on the field one is applying for. Students often end up taking this exam two times, so it’s best to budget up to 500 $.
  • Test scores like GMAT, GRE, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS have to be reported by testing agencies. It may cost up to $20 per University for reporting scores of all tests you may have taken.

Tuition Fees in Canada

Studying abroad is quite expensive, but Canada offers reasonable prices for both national and international students.  Canadian universities offer the lowest tuition rates for international students, compared to the U.K., Australia, and the U.S.

Universities in Canada set their own fees, thus tuition fees vary across programs, universities and provinces.

Degrees in professional schools (law, medicine, engineering and the MBA) are usually the most expensive.

On the other hand, tuition fees for arts and humanities students are lesser. For international undergraduate students, the average tuition fees in Canada start at about CA$14,000 (about US$10,735) per year.

University tuition fees holds more facts and figures for Canadian universities tuition fees for international students.

Accommodation for International Students in Canada

The region you choose to live would determine your accommodation cost. The type of accommodation could be short term accommodation, where you can choose to stay in hotels, bed and breakfast or Youth hostels. Otherwise, it’s a long term accommodation, usually school-provided accommodation such as Residence/Dormitory and Homestays. Off-campus housing is another long term accommodation.

Living in campus can enhance the overall experience of studying in Canada, not to mention increasing the chances of meeting new friends. Canadian Universities provide different structures to suit the accommodation needs of students.  However, if privacy is your utmost aim, private accommodations are also available.

Love To Work While Studying?

Working during the school year is a good way for earning money for personal expenses. Students with exceptional grades can get a job as an Assistant lecturer at the end of their program.

Students get off campus work permit allowing them work up to 40 hours per week during the yearly breaks and 20 hours per week during the semester. International students with a valid study permit do not need an extra work permit to work in the campus.

Students intending to work with children or the elderly have to pass the Canadian Medical Exam.

Work Permit

To qualify for work permit, students are mandated to obtain a valid study permit and be enrolled full-time at a recognized postsecondary educational institution.

Recognized institutions generally include a public, post-secondary college or university, as well as degree-granting programs offered by private institutions throughout Canada.

After graduation, students are entitled to apply for a Post-Graduation Work visa. This visa is a gateway to stay and work in Canada for three more years. Afterwards, it’s possible to apply for a permanent residency permit which allows you to work and live in Canada permanently.

Taxes

In order to work while studying in Canada, you are obliged to pay income taxes. Any money one earn in Canada is subject to Canadian income tax. This also includes income from Graduate assistant and teaching assistant jobs.

Factors that determine the amount people pay for tax in Canada include:

  • Total income
  • Residency status
  • Federal and provincial tax rates
  • Federal and provincial tax credits
  • Federal and provincial tax deductions

Health Tips

Students travelling from far to come study in Canada should be very health conscious as changing environment has its pros and cons.

Time check! You have decided to get a degree abroad, and have probably listed your schools of interest. Now you know a standardized challenge to overcome are the tests. Though various schools have different thresholds for test scores that they accommodate, we have stretched out 9 secrets to improve your test taking skills.

Understand What Your Test Assesses

Whether you’re preparing for undergraduate or postgraduate studies, it is important that you know what your test assesses. An insight into what’s fundamentally being tested guides your thought process, your preparation and also the conduct of the test itself.

Know Your Test Structure, Timing and Guidelines

While going into test preparations directly with basic math and verbal knowledge is just fine, many students usually get lost in the details, without having a structure to proceed with. Beforehand, you should know the sections of the test, the timing, and also the regulations. To boost your test taking experience, try finding out if the test is computer adaptive, has negative marking and whether all questions carry equal marks.

Look Out For Test Prep Alternatives

There are many options you can explore to get quality learning, but this all depends on your personality. You may choose to attend a tutorial centre, hire a personal test coach, or maximize the use of webinars. Some people, however, prefer to study alone within the comfort of their home. It’s essential that you understand what works for you and choose the option that best aligns with your strengths and weaknesses.

Choose the Best Study Materials

The material you use to prepare for your test can either make or mar your scores. There are many materials available online and in book stores, but not all may suit you. Some quantitative books, for example, are designed for math experts while others are made for beginners. Also, some test prep centres have better books for the GREs than for the GMAT. On this note, you want to take independent assessment and revise reviews before making decisions.

Develop A Study Plan

Now that you have chosen your test prep options and your study materials, what’s next? A study plan and timetable! This automatically increases the chances of your test taking success. It is not always enough to develop a plan, you must stick to it. It’s predicate that you consider other commitments and side events that might prevent you from studying effectively, while putting together a plan.

No, Don’t Burn Out

Don’t be deceived into thinking that the outcome of your test is directly proportional to the amount of time and energy you put into preparing for it. Studying hardly work that way. Tests are designed to assess many other factors. Therefore, while the time you take to prepare depends on you, you should let your test preparations involve your hobbies and interests. You don’t want to burn out before your test day.

Study Smart:

When preparing for your SATs, GMAT, GREs, TOEFL, you should study concisely. It isn’t just enough to practice, endeavour to know the rules behind each questions you solve. Would you rather boil the entire ocean or take part of the ocean and boil and dissect completely? No doubt, you’re smart enough to go for the latter. So, you should learn to work each question with the intent of knowing the fundamentals, because questions are hardly repeated.

Keep Moving

Tests are not designed for perfectionists, so if you do not know a question, keep going. Your test taking skill must reflect ability to adapt to the testing environment. Also ensure that you don’t remain stuck on a question.

Use Your Breaks

Always use your breaks in-between test sections. That said, you don’t necessarily have to be hungry to consider utilizing the breaks. Keep in mind that water and fruits help you stay hydrated.

Your GPA may be outstanding, your recommendation letters may be overboard and you may graduate top of your class, but your test scores are the parameter the Admissions Board uses to compare you with other applicants.

Online Degree is fast becoming a big deal in the world today. Not only is it competing with regular degree in standard and quality of graduates, the modern technology used in structuring the entire system is also far commendable.  If you’ve decided to give it a shot but don’t know where to start, pick a seat and join this ride.

Find Your Passion

First, determine where your interests and passions lies. Just because you aced maths courses in high school doesn’t mean you would fit into Mathematics major. The first step to getting your online degree – or even the regular degree – is to ensure that you choose a program that clearly maximizes your strengths and aligns with your future prospects.

Determine the Right Fit

The next thing after finding your passion is to determine the degree type that suits you best – Just as traditional colleges have associate, bachelor’s and advanced degrees, so do online colleges. A great step to getting your online degree is to make sure that the type of degree is in line with your schedule and what you plan to achieve.

Double Check Options

It is not just about choosing a Harvard of online colleges, it’s advisable to choose a school that has a strong offering of the course that you want to study. Some schools have stronger departments than others, so look into the program of the faculties while making considerations. This will enable you double check if their procedure matches with your interest. There’s a bit of work in getting the right match, but when you eventually do, its smooth sailing.

Verify Chosen School

Another key to getting an online degree is to ensure that your chosen school is accredited and well-renowned. You sure don’t want to pay fees only to later discover that the school isn’t accredited. There are various sites that are useful in determining if an online college is accredited.  Accredited Schools Online provides useful information in determining accredited schools.

Make the Connection

You’re almost there, next is to connect with the school you have chosen. Firstly, you want to ask questions on issues that you are not clear about. Also, ensure that the information contained in their official pages are not far-fetched from what is obtainable in the conduct of the school.

Reach Out

It doesn’t end with reaching out to the school, there are other parties worth hearing from. Who’s your best guess? The Alumni! Try to email known alumni of the college and let them tell you what the degree looks like in the labour market. Also, get their sincere opinion on how best you should go about getting your online degree.

Furthermore, relationships built on this sort of conversations are very important during your degree. An alumnus can always recommend courses you should take and the best ways to get good grades during your program.

Just Do It

You’ve come this far researching and seeking advice, you might as well just do it. If you are choosing multiple distance learning institutions, try applying to as many as possible. It is not enough to fill in an application form, ensure that the school gets supporting documents – transcripts and letters of recommendation.

The world is fast developing with appreciation for digital transformation like online learning. There’s never a better time to jump on the trend than now.

Learning how to study smarter, not harder is the key to becoming a successful student. If you don’t know how to study smart, there are not enough hours in a day to help you get through all those notes and textbooks.

Successful students achieve their accomplishment by developing and mastering techniques to study effectively. Knowing the combination of study habits that work for you is key to success.

Top 10 Study Habits Of Successful Students

Never Cram

Cramming won’t lead you anywhere, students who cram eventually realize that they have wasted their time. Having regular, yet shorter study periods is the key to assimilation. Studying is a regime that should be adhered to strictly.

Set Goals

Each time you study, you must have specific goals and what you want to cover and understand within the allocated time. Studying without direction is not always effective.

Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination regresses you. Ensure to allocate a specific study time each day. When you study at the same time each week, it will become a regular part of your routine. Even if you have to adjust because of one thing or the other, revert back immediately. Procrastination will make your study less effective.

Remove Lifestyle Distractions

Remove all lifestyle distractions while studying. Switch off your phone if it will pose as a distraction, turn off the Television, turn off your internet if you have to. Although technology offers access to infinite information, stick with academic websites that contribute to your education.

Join a Study Group

Helping one another is very supportive. You share ideas and perspectives, students with good study habits always create and join study groups to help each other out.

Ask For Help

Reach out to tutors, classmates and lecturers if you have to. If you are falling behind in class, never be afraid to ask for help.

Review Your Notes

Take notes in class, notes show you the lecturer’s standpoints. Before you start a study session or a particular assignment, review your notes appropriately so as to know how to complete the assignment correctly.

Always Start with the Most Difficult Subject First

As your most difficult subject would always require the most mental energy, ensure you always start with it first. Once you are through with it, it will be very easy to complete the others and this will also increase the effectiveness of your study sessions.

Take Care of Yourself

Only a healthy person can effectively study. Don’t starve yourself or deprive yourself of much needed sleep in the name of studying. Always eat a balanced diet and exercise. Good health improves your mental capacity.

Stay Organised

In any situation, disarray hinders productivity. You have to always arrange your notes, textbooks, study materials. Organisation makes it easier for you to find anything you need for each exam, keep your homework together and prevent clutters.
